OR Tracking Screens Arrive

Electronic Boards Allow Families to Stay Updated During Surgery

Ocala, FL (March 1, 2010) – Family members of surgery patients at Ocala Regional Medical Center and West Marion Community Hospital have something new that will ease their anxiety while waiting for their loved ones.  With the installation of new technology at the hospitals, families can track patients through all stages of surgery and recovery on screens in place at different locations throughout the hospitals.

We are extremely proud of our ability to offer our patients, their families and friends this technology,” said Ann Marie Kjosa, Chief Nursing Officer, Ocala Health System. “The real time updates provide a sense of staying connected with their loved ones,”

Tracking screens are available in the surgical services waiting areas for patient’s families. Some family members who have viewed the monitors say the flat screen devices remind them of information screens at airports that display updated arrival and departure times. The information about their loved one provides them great comfort. These screens meet all HIPAA requirements for patient privacy.

In addition to the tracking screens in the waiting areas there are a number of screens within the operating and recovery areas that are available for medical staff.  These screens display additional medical information delivered in real time that doctors, nurses and other clinicians can use to improve continuity of patient care.  The screens and software were installed at the two Ocala Health System hospitals the week of January 18.
